The Difference Between Mental Strength And Mental Health

Mental Health is the overall state of the mind - it is a state of being that everyone has. Your mental health can be in a state of positivity, toxicity, negativity or requiring improvement.

Mental Strength on the other hand, is the degree of positive intensity of mental health. If your mental health is doing well, it means you are mentally strong. Mental strength is made up of three components: Thinking, Feeling, and Acting. Together, these form the Cognitive Triad that can be used as a measure of one's mental strength.

Three things mental strength does for your mental health

Let’s think about this in terms of physical health and physical strength. Your physical health is the overall state of your body that aids you in tackling physical health issues. Similarly, your mental strength is what you require to counter mental health issues.

  1. 1) A mentally strong person is able to think more rationally and positively, identify difficult emotions, and takes productive actions that will make healthy changes in their life.
    2) A mentally strong person works more effectively, even under pressure. Their resilience is increased, so they have the ability to bounce back during hardships.
  2. 3) Mental strength not only helps one tackle mental health issues, but increases their quality of life holistically.

Since mental strength is key to increased mental health, how do we go about getting mentally stronger? To understand which areas of our lives require improvement to be emotionally, thoughtfully and behaviorally strong, we have developed the MindPeers MindCare Index to gauge your mental strength, and give you real time solutions to get better.
